Final call for entries for Pittwater & Coffs Harbour Regatta 2012

A final call for entries has come from the organisers The Royal Prince Alfred Yacht Club for the Pittwater & Coffs Harbour Regatta 2012. Competitors will have until 5pm next Friday 23 December to get their entry in without incurring a late fee. This will give anyone contemplating entering the race one last opportunity to enjoy a fantastic regatta.

With 47 boats entered for the regatta at the provisional close of entries last Friday, the field is shaping up with an interesting array of yachts representing 16 different yacht clubs across three states. With Bob Oatley’s ‘Wild Oats’ not entering the race in 2012 it leaves the race for line honours wide open with Craig Eliis’ Elliot 57 ‘Future Shock, Bruce Absolon’s Volvo 60 ‘Spirit of the Maid’, Josephe Earl’s Kaiko 52 ‘Merlin’, the two DK46s ‘Exile and ‘Nine Dragons’ and the Hudson/Murphy/Lockley IC45 ‘ Pretty Woman’, 4th over the line in 2011, the favourites to take the coveted Line Honors Bell trophy home.

The five race regatta kicks off with the Pittwater to Coffs Harbour Race on 2 January at 1pm followed by two sprint and two 20nm offshore races in Coffs Harbour on 5 and 6 January to round out the regatta. The Pittwater & Coffs Harbour Regatta offers IRC, ORCi, PHS and shorthanded Divisions and also incorporates the inaugural Australian Performance Handicap (PHS) Championships with 23 entries to date keen to get their name etched on the new trophy.

In terms of handicap honors, one of the most competitive fleets in years has assembled for both IRC and PHS. Conditions, tactics, sail options and crew work will play a big part in 2012.

The host Club, the RPAYC has got support from RPAYC Club volunteers to act as ambassadors for visiting yachts when they arrive to berth their yacht for the Pittwater & Coffs Harbour Regatta. An ambassador will be assigned to each visiting yacht to greet them on their arrival to the RPAYC marina and escort them to the Club and show them around.

Richard Hudson, Chair of the Coffs Organising Committee said, “We’re pleased to keep the entries open for another week or so, we have one of the best fleets in years and some great social activities planned in Coffs for crews to enjoy themselves so we welcome anyone contemplating the Pittwater & Coffs regatta, to enter."
