Coming to Coffs - Training & Courses

Racing to Coffs is just one aspect of the event, to qualify and be considered eligiable to compete boats and crew must first meet the requirements of the Notice of Race, including the Yachting Australia Special Regulations. 

Crew Requirements:

  • First Aid Certificates required x one (1) crew members (note this crew must also hold a SSSC)
  • Safety & Survial at Sea certificates (SSSC)  required by 30% of crew (including the Skipper/Sailing Master)
  • Marine Radio Operators Cerficiate of Proficiency x one (1) crew members
  • Experience in Cateogory 2 races or approved equivalent passages required, 50% of crew

Vessel Requirements:

  • Yachting Australia Special Regulations Compliance Audit, Category 2 Form, signed by a National Equipment Auditor
  • Marine Radio Inspection Certificate (HF/VHF)
  • Verification of Stability criteria for YA SR Category 2
  • Verification of Construction for YA SR Category 2
  • Rating Certificates (ORCi, IRC, OMR)
  • Liftraft(s)
  • EPIRB per lift raft
  • PLB for each crew
  • AIS (all boats)
  • Satelite phone (all boats) 

To assist boat owners and crew The Royal Prince Alfred Yacht Club have developed the 'Pathway to Coffs', consisting of a series of courses and seminars to assist in the preparation for race day.

The Pittwater to Coffs Harbour Yacht Race has developed over its 36 year history, into one of the most popular of all ocean-racing events in Australia.

The race offers competitors a strategic challenge as they race between the surfline and the current, past unsurpassed scenic coastlines, prior to arriving in one of Australia's most popular coastal cities.
